The 2026 FIA World Endurance Championship heads to a crucial penultimate round this weekend with the inaugural 6 Hours of Barcelona at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya. The calendar shift was forced upon the FIA and WEC promoters due to ongoing conflicts in the Middle East, ruling out the planned season-closing races in Qatar and Bahrain and keeping the championship in Europe.
This weekend marks a historic milestone as an official WEC race takes place at the Montmelo circuit for the very first time. Even though the venue represents a fresh challenge for championship points, the competitors are already intimately familiar with the Catalan track's characteristics from various official testing sessions held there over the years.
The championship battle has intensified significantly following the victory secured by Brendon Hartley, Ryo Hirakawa, and Sebastien Buemi at Fuji. The trio driving the #8 Toyota car holds a crucial 10-point advantage in the Drivers' standings over the sister #7 lineup shared by Mike Conway, Kamui Kobayashi, and Nyck de Vries.
The Manufacturers' championship remains fiercely contested as well, with BMW and Ferrari ready to push hard until the final checkered flag of the season. Alpine also enters the weekend carrying notable momentum after coming agonizingly close to taking victory during the previous round in Japan.
Fans looking to follow the action can access the full weekend broadcast through multiple official channels. Friday's opening two practice sessions will be accessible strictly via official live timing, while FP3 and Saturday's qualifying sessions will air live on Discovery+ and FIAWEC+. The headline six-hour race on Sunday will be broadcast live across Eurosport 2, Sky Sport, NOW, DAZN, Discovery+, HBO Max, and FIAWEC+.
